Egg wash glaze icing prepares cookies for painting, sometimes called Paintbrush Cookies. Painting directly on embossed sugar cookies, shortbreads, spritz cookies, and springerle can cause paints to soak in, spread, and fade. Use this recipe to paint on pie crusts too. This glaze will allow the paint to settle on top for a shiny and colorful finish. It adds a sweet coating as well. Perfect for making beautiful Christmas springerle.

Cookie Egg Wash Glaze

Most egg wash recipes call for using egg whites, which runs the risk of illness due to bacteria like salmonella. Using meringue powder eliminates this risk. Would you like to learn more about meringue powder? Check our blog All About Meringue Powder.
