Instructions

Outline the Cookies:
Using flood consistency white royal icing, carefully outline the shape of each cookie.
Set aside to allow the outlines to crust over.
Flood the Cookies:
Flood each cookie with royal icing, ensuring complete coverage within the outlined area.
Use a scribe tool to smooth and shape any imperfections in the icing.
Allow the icing to set up completely by letting the cookies air dry overnight.
Stencil Application:
Once the icing is dry, place your chosen stencil into a frame holder, ensuring full contact with the cookie and work surface.
Pipe a small amount of medium consistency black icing onto a scraper and run the scraper over the stencil, covering the entire design.
Lift the stencil straight up off the cookie to avoid smudges.
Allow the icing to set up completely before proceeding.
Prepare Edible Paint:
Have your edible paint palette and water tray ready.
Fill a few cavities of the paint tray with water to activate the colors and rinse your brush.
Painting Process:
Paint the cookies as desired using the edible paint palette like watercolors.
Adjust the intensity of the colors by varying the amount of water used.
Allow the painted cookies to dry completely.
Carrot Cookie Variation:
For carrot cookies, outline the carrot section with flood consistency orange royal icing and the leaf section with green icing.
Flood and smooth the green section, allowing it to crust over.
Flood and smooth the carrot with orange icing, then set aside to dry completely at room temperature overnight.
Once dry, use stiff orange icing to pipe an outline around the carrot and add details. Outline the leaf section with stiff green icing.
Enjoy your beautifully painted sugar cookies!
