How to Create Molded Candy Suckers

Now that you’re ready to make molded candy suckers, it’s time to turn your ideas into reality. With a little guidance, you can achieve vibrant colors, precise details, and a smooth finish. These instructions will help you approach the process confidently and get professional-looking results.

Ingredients

  • candy molds
  • candy coating
  • sucker sticks
  • squeeze bottles
  • small craft paint brushes
  • tipless piping bags

Instructions

Prepare the mold
Ensure your candy molds are clean and completely dry. Any moisture can prevent the candy from setting properly or cause cloudiness in the finished suckers.
Melt the candy coating
Place candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until fully melted and smooth. Avoid overheating, which can cause the candy to seize or burn. The coating should be fluid enough to pour or squeeze easily into the mold.
Add detailed designs
Use candy writers or squeeze bottles to paint or squirt melted candy into the mold cavities.
Note: You can make your own candy writers using tipless piping bags filled with melted candy. This is a cost-effective way to add multiple colors and fine details without melting large amounts of candy.
Set each color
Allow each color to set at room temperature before adding adjoining colors. This prevents colors from bleeding and keeps designs crisp and clean.
Fill the mold
Once all details are set, melt a contrasting color (add flavoring if desired), pour it into a squeeze bottle, and carefully fill the rest of the mold.
Tap mold to release air bubbles
Gently tap the mold on the countertop to remove any trapped air bubbles and ensure a smooth, flawless surface.
Insert sucker sticks (if needed)
Push a sucker stick about halfway into the melted candy, ensuring it is fully coated so it will stay securely in place.
Add embellishments before setting
While the candy is still soft in the mold, press sprinkles, edible glitter, or small candy pieces onto the back for extra decoration. Press lightly so they adhere but don’t distort the shape.
Chill the candy
Place the filled mold in the freezer until the candy is completely firm. The candy is ready to pop out when the mold becomes slightly cloudy, indicating it’s fully set.
Remove from mold
Gently release the suckers from the mold. If any details remain stuck, return the mold to the freezer until fully firm.
Add finishing embellishments
Once removed, you can add drizzles of colored candy, edible paint, shimmer dust, or other decorations to enhance the finished look.
Enjoy or package
Your molded candy suckers are ready to enjoy, gift, or display! Handle carefully and store in a cool, dry place to maintain their shape and shine.
