Ingredients and Supplies
- 6 cups cherry fFilling
- 1 tbsp. almond flavor (optional)
- 2 ready-made pie crusts
- 1 egg
- coarse crystal sugar
Pour 6 cups cherry pie filling into bowl and stir in almond flavoring if desired. Line pie pan with ready-made crust. Fill pie pan with cherry filling.
Lay 2nd pie crust out and using a ruler and pastry wheel cut into 1/2" strips. Lay as many strips as desired horizontal across your pie. Pull back every other strip and put down your first strip in the vertical direction. Then return horizontal strips to original position. Pull back opposite strips and put down 2nd vertical strip. Repeat process across entire pie. Use your fingers to crimp edge of crust.
Whisk egg with 2 teaspoons water. Use a pastry brush to put eggwash on lattice strips and edge of crust. Sprinkle with coarse sanding sugar. Use a pie shield to protect edges of crust and bake at 350º until crust is golden brown.
