Ingredients and Supplies
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons red sanding sugar
  • 3 tablespoons green sanding sugar

Heat oven to 400°F. Cream together butter shortening, granulated sugar, eggs and vanilla. Blend in flour, cinnamon, salt, cream of tartar and soda. Shape dough into balls. In a separate bowl, combine red and green sanding sugars. Roll balls in sanding sugar mixture. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 7 to 10 minutes, or until set but not brown. Remove immediately from baking sheets.
