Ingredients

  • shaped cake
  • buttercream icing
  • flesh colored fondant
  • blue fondant
  • orange fondant
  • yellow fondant
  • black fondant
  • light brown fondant
  • 1 1/2" round cutter
  • sharp knife
  • pastry wheel
  • piping gel

Instructions

Bake cake in plastic golfer pan and let cool. Once cool, use a bread knife to cut off golfer details to make top of cake flat. Crumb coat cake with thinned buttercream or completely ice cake with buttercream. Roll flesh fondant and cover the bottom half of the cake; brush cake with piping gel if you only crumb coated the cake. Roll orange fondant to cover the top half of the cake; leaving enough extra to make brim of hat. Place small plastic cups under fondant until crusted to make fondant stand-up to make brim. Roll blue fondant and cut eyes with round cutter and patch for hat using pastry wheel. Attach to cake with piping gel. Roll small piece of orange fondant and cut triangle for nose using pastry wheel; attach to cake with piping gel. Roll yellow fondant to make a strip for the hat using pastry wheel; attach with piping gel. Roll black fondant very thin to cut mouth and stitches; attach with piping gel. Remove plastic cups holding rim when fondant stands on its own. Roll light brown fondant very thin and cut 6" wide by 3" deep strips. Using the pastry wheel, roll straw like strips starting at the bottom of the 6" x 3" piece but not going all the way to the top; doing this keeps the straw attach to a solid piece across the top. Attach these strips to cake with piping gel to make the scarecrows straw; doing this keeps the straw attached to a solid piece. Trim smaller strips to make straw under hat.
