Stacked Wedding Cake
AVAILABLE STYLES OF PLATES FOR STACKED WEDDING CAKES
Stacked Cake Method/Flat Plates, Pegs, Dowel Rods
 ASSEMBLY AND SET-UP
Prepare the cakes:
Place base tier on a sturdy base plate of at least 4 thickness of cardboard
(covered with our decorative foil), masonite (covered
with our decorative foil), Super Strong Plastic Cake Stand, or deluxe white
Formica stand. Note: Glue Bush Stud Set #26-700 on the masonite or
cardboard for ease in lifting. Cake ruffle may be added to any of the above.
Place remaining cakes on on cardboards (cover cardboards with foil or use
grease-proof). Each cardboard should be the same size as it's cake. Ice the
cakes. After cakes have been iced and the icing has crusted, we recommend
sprinkling desiccated coconut on crusted icing on top of the cakes, except top
tier, where the upper cake will sit, to keep icing from sticking to plates and
coming off cake during disassembling.
Assembly: For each cake to be stacked, a flat plastic plate, same size as the
cardboard the cake is sitting on is required. Push pegs into the holes on the
bottom of each flat plastic plate (pegs should be just slightly shorter than iced
cake). For extra strength, cut wooden dowel rods or plastic dowel
rods the exact length of the pegs, or use cake jacks. Push the dowel
rods or cake jacks into the cake (evenly spaced),
where the plate will hide the dowel rods or cake jacks. Center the plate (with
the pegs attached) on the cake, and push the plate into the cake containing the
dowel rods. Place each cake onto same size plastic, starting with the plate on
the base tier. This can be done before delivery and completely decorated as
long as there are no gaps between tops of any cakes and dowel rods and
pegs...best to cut a bit short and have upper cake push into lower cake a bit,
than to have gap. To avoid cardboards from sliding on flat plastic plates, a
dot of glue from a hot glue gun or a bit of icing may be applied between
cardboard and plate.
Final Assembly: May be delivered completely stacked
and assembled at destination. Or wait until final destination to assemble.
Have all cakes decorated except bottom borders. Assemble cake, then pipe
borders.
