Decorating (Pastry Bags)
Decorating bags, most often called pastry bags, are fitted with various shapes of decorating
tips and partially filled with icing. By holding the bag at the proper angle and applying the
appropriate amount of pressure, designs are piped.
Available Decorating Bags
Plastic-coated bags
Plastic-Coated bags are great for reusing over and
over again. Keep separate bags for royal icing and
buttercream. The shortening residue from the
buttercream will break down the royal icing.

Drop decorating tip into opening and fill bag no
more than 1/2 full with icing. To change tip while
using the same color of icing--use a coupler.

There are two types of plastic coated bags
available. The "suregrip" (left) is a
plastic lined canvas decorating bag which
is a durable fabric impregnated with plastic.
The "Featherweight" bag is a very flexible and
tough polyurethane coated polyester.

Clear Disposable-Reusable Bags
Made of heavy, clear plastic, cut disposable bag end to
fit coupler or tip. Although designed as disposable,
these bags may often be reused.

These bags are ideal for children to use. As soon as the
kids are done, simply cut off the end, remove tip and
throw bag away!

Parchment Bags
Parchment can be purchased in rolls or triangle
sheets. (If using roll, cut a square, fold corner-
to-corner, and cut fold.)

Parchment is great if cleanup is a headache.

When finished decorating simply cut off the
end of parchment bag, remove tip and throw
bag away!
To make bags from parchment Triangles:
Hold triangle pointed side
down and wide side up.
Grasp left side of triangle
with left hand and use right
hand to form a cone. Bringing
right upper point down toward
tip, align the point formed at
the top with the bottom tip.
With left hand, wrap left
side around. Pull and
adjust, forming a "W"
at the top. The tip of the
bag should be very tight.
Secure with a piece
of tape if necessary.

Using a Coupler
Couplers are wonderful to use so that you can
use the same bag of colored icing and switch
tips.
Step 1: Remove ring from coupler. Step 2: Trim narrow end of plastic bag, a little at a time,
so that 2 or 3 threads will protrude from bag when coupler is pushed down into bag. Step 3:
Push coupler down into bag securely and place decorating tip over end of coupler. Step 4:
Screw plastic ring over decorating tip onto coupler to hold tip in place.
Available Couplers:
Standard: Fits most standard size tips.

Large (right): Fits larger tips.
