Buttercream frosting can be made from a wide variety of very different recipes. Generally buttercream frosting recipes are made from a combination of fat and sugar and a few other ingredients. The fat in buttercream frosting can be butter or shortening or a combination of the two. The sugar can be granulated or powdered and additional sweetness may come from white chocolate, cream cheese and flavorings.
